Getting around Vancouver is going to be a little easier in the new year with the arrival of Kater Cabs. The Surrey-based tech company connects users with taxis through its smartphone app much like other ride-sharing/hailing services. Expect a few hiccups before launch, but it should be arriving sooner rather than later right here in Vancouver.

It’s not Uber…it’s not Lyft… heck, it’s not even whatever the third-biggest ride-sharing company is, but it’s something!

According to Postmedia News, there will be an initial 200 cabs using Kater. There will be no cash swapping hands, no meters on the dash, and no longer than a 5 minute wait time for each pickup.

So, what does this mean for ride-sharing in the future? Well, considering this agreement is between the Taxi Association and Kater, it’s fair to say BC is still fighting against Uber and Lyft.
